"In this introductory volume we try to develop as thoroughly as possible a few, but not all, of the new concepts introduced in quantum mechanics. Essentially, we concern ourselves with the many aspects of the Schrodinger equation (without spin) and its applications. In presenting our material we shall make rather extensive use of the concept of the wave packet. The wave packet is by no means of basic importance, but it serves as a useful scaffolding by means of which quantum mechanics may be built."

Leiner: "The Leiners, who started their professional careers as mathematicians, have spent the major part of their careers on research and development of electronic computers. Henrietta C. Leiner worked in the computer field at the National Bureau of Standards, Washington, DC until mid-career, when her interest in neural systems caused her to switch to the field of neuroanatomy, which she studied at Columbia University in New York City. Alan L. Leiner designed electronic computer systems at the National Bureau of Standards, Washington, DC from 1945 to 1 96Q, when he joined the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. He worked for two decades at IBM in New York, Philadelphia, and Palo Alto, CA, after which he retired. In retirement, for more than a decade, the Leiners have been engaged in an interdisciplinary effort to analyze cerebro-cerebellar networks in the human brain, with particular emphasis on cerebellar contributions to cognition. " (information found at new horizons for learning ). Chapters include: Newtonian and Bergsonian Time, Groups and Statistical Mechanics, Time Series, Information, and Communication, Feed-Back and Oscillation, Computing Machines and the Nervous System, Gestalt and Universals, Cybernetics and Psychopathology, and, Information, Language and Society.
