4 (Ephemera) , [Music], [Popular Music] [fabric Concert Banner], [train], [steel], [limbeck}
Tempe, AZ NA 2005 Ephemera Fine
Color Illustrations; Ephemera: This is a small Banner / concert poster for the Indie Rock / Punk Rock Group The Format. This item is in Near Fine condition. This is a concert banner (17" x 11.5") consisting of paint on canvas -- likely silk screened -- for two 2005 dates (May 8 & 9) in Tempe, AZ. The Format appears to be the headline group, but also includes the groups Steel, Train, Tickertape Parade, Limbeck, and, Let Go. This rather unique item is not signed by an artist and could possibly be the work of an aspiring college student. The banner is clean and fresh, with no dirt or finger marks (in fact, it looks and feels as if it had never been used). The only fault is that the unsewn edges have started to ravel a bit at the very edges.

Rod's Steak House (Williams Arizona - Gateway to the Grand Canyon), (Ephemera) uncredited shaped menu
5 (Ephemera) uncredited shaped menu Rod's Steak House (Williams Arizona - Gateway to the Grand Canyon)
Williams, AZ Rod's Steak House 1960 Ephemera Very Good+
(Advertising ephemera) an uncredited beef shaped menu from Rod's Steak House in Williams Arizona. Rod's Steak House was opened in 1946 and is on historic Route 66 - on the way to the Grand Canyon. Here's a bit about the history of Rod's from their website: " 'Rod,' or Rodney Graves, was born in Spruce Head, Maine in 1904. When Rod was eleven, he moved to California with his family. Later on he attended Stanford University. During the hardships of the twenties, he was forced to leave college. Since he was a lover of the great outdoors, it was natural for him to become a surveyor for the U.S. Coastal and Geodetic survey. His and his crew's names are inscribed on the altitude mark atop Mt. Lassen, from there they surveyed the California-Arizona-Mexico borders. After deciding to stay in Arizona, he bought and operated a small café in Seligman, a small community 48 miles west of Williams. This is where he met his future bride, Helen. After a short time, he sold this operation and set off for Phoenix and Helen, where she was a teacher. Helen and Rod were married in 1938. They both loved Northern Arizona, especially Williams and Prescott. After much deliberation, they decided Williams would be the site of their new home. Rod bought the Grand Canyon Tavern, which he operated for nearly seven years. During this business venture, Rod had determined a restaurant, perhaps a steak house was needed in town. He sold the tavern, and obtained the property to build and fulfill his dream." This cow shaped menu is in Very Good+ to Near Fine- condition and dates to c 1960's (A top sirloin steak was priced at 3.85, while ice cream would cost you a whopping .15cents). The interior of the card is a printed menu which was used as a semi-postcard by the former owner with two notations inked inside. The card itself is crisp and clean, with just a hint of rubbing.

There is some light rubbing and wear to the spine ends and corners of the pamphlet covers. The text pages are clean and bright. "The foremost consideration at Rose Haven Camp is the health of each girl.... Evidently many more parents would have their young daughters got to camp if they could feel that the experiment would not be too drastic a change from the customary home conditions... The type of camper encouraged to come to Rose Haven is just the plain, clean, fun-loving American girl." "." "Open air schools or schools of the woods were purpose-built educational institutions for children that were designed to prevent and combat the widespread rise of tuberculosis that occurred in the period leading up to the Second World War. The schools were built on the concept that fresh air, good ventilation and exposure to the outside contributed to improved health. The schools were mostly built in areas away from city centers, sometimes in rural locations, to provide a space free from pollution and overcrowding. The creation and design of the schools paralleled that of the tuberculosis sanatoriums, in that hygiene and exposure to fresh air were paramount; open air schools however also provided education." "
