3 Barnett, John (with Contributions by Tommi Lou Carousella, James Kuiper, Randall Shiroma, and Hope Werness) Rifts, Rocks, And Tree Skins: An Installation

The brochure was produced to accompany an installation at the University Art Gallery (at CSU Stanislaus) from February 17- April 2, 1998. "How often do we pause to comtemplate the details of our surroundings? John Barnett's work invites us to appreciate the beauty to be found in the textures of bark and earth, to smile in recognition of things seen, yet no seen, perhaps a hundred times before. It surprises us with familiar shapes in unfamiliar colors, and with a change in perspective, small things made large, which compels our attention." "John’s grounding in nature and the outdoors come from his formative years spent exploring the tidal mud flats close to his family home on Barbridge Island in Puget’s Sound in Washington State. Endless summers were spent sleeping outdoors cradled by spent razorbill shells, waking to the screech of sea eagles soaring overhead in the dawn skies and the sounds of waves crashing onto a beach. His introduction to nature came from accompanying his father and brothers backpacking, walking and fishing the magical ever-changing area between the land and the sea of his surrounding landscape."

15 Moses, H. , Sir Henry Englefield Vases From The Collection Of Sir Henry Englefield (bart) Drawn and Engraved by H. Moses
London, England Printed for Rodwell and Martin 1st Edition Hardcover Very Good+ Illustrated by H. Moses
B&W Illustrations; Circa 1819. This edition was printed for Rodwell and Martin, New Bond Street, London. The book is in Very Good+ edition with three quarters leather binding and marbled paper covered boards. There is some noticeable wear and fraying to the spine ends, spine joints and corners of the book covers. The marbled paper covered boards have some generalized rubbing. T. E. G. (Top edge Gilt). The text pages are mostly clean and bright, with the exception of a few stray spots of foxing. The front pastedown includes the bookplate of Henry B. H. Beaufoy F. R. S. (Beaufoy (shown below) was likely the book’s first owner. From roughly 1784 through 1843, Beaufoy was one of Europe’s most celebrated and prestigious hot air ballonists; his numerous ascents contributed unprecedented support to the nascent discipline of aeronautics, as well as providing new information to cartographers, meteorologists, and physicists in England and on the continent. Beaufoy was also a great collector of both coins (he wrote a well-regarded book on early English “tokens”) and, more importantly for my purposes, books. Beaufoy collected across a range of topics and genres. Most famously, however, was his assembling together in one library a copy of the first (1623) , second (1632) , third (1663) , and fourth (1685) folios of the plays of William Shakespeare (his library was dispersed at auction by Christie’s in July 1909 and the four folios were eventually split up at auction in July 1912)." The book is illustrated with 39 plates (the last plate hand-colored). The text is in both English and French. "Sir Henry Charles Englefield, 7th Baronet (1752 – 21 March 1822) was an English antiquary and scientist...He never married, and devoted his entire life to study. In 1778 at the early age of 26 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, and in the following year Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. For many years he was vice-president of the latter, and succeeded the Marquess Townshend as president." "Henry Moses (1782? –1870) was an English engraver. He died at Cowley, Middlesex, 28 February 1870."
