"A long time ago, when the earth was greenAnd there was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen, And they run around free while the world was bein' born, And the lovliest of all was the Unicorn." "Silverstein's passion for music was clear early on as he studied briefly at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. His musical output included a large catalog of songs; a number of which were hits for other artists, most notably the rock group Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show. He wrote Tompall Glaser's highest-charting solo single "Put Another Log on the Fire", "One's on the Way" (a hit for Loretta Lynn) , and "25 Minutes to Go", sung by Johnny Cash, about a man on Death Row with each line counting down one minute closer. Silverstein also wrote one of Johnny Cash's best known hits, "A Boy Named Sue" as well as "The Unicorn", first recorded by Silverstein himself in 1962 but better known in its version by the Irish Rovers. Other songs co-written by Silverstein include "the Taker" written with Kris Kristofferson and recorded by Waylon Jennings, and a sequel to "A Boy Named Sue" called: "Father of a Boy Named Sue" which is less known, but he performed the song on television on The Johnny Cash Show.

Primer of Braille Music 1939 printing, Special Committee on Braille Music and the American Foundation for the Blind
16 Special Committee on Braille Music and the American Foundation for the Blind Primer of Braille Music 1939 printing
Louisville, KY American Printing House for the Blind 1939 Reprint Paperback Very Good+
This book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. "Blind students are a low-incidence factor in the overall population; in an entire career, a music teacher may encounter such a student only once or twice. Overwhelmed by what seems to be required, but unable to locate suitable resources, the teacher may still try to do the right thing despite having virtually no tools. A general awareness about Braille music and its availability can help to resolve this dilemma. While literary Braille is well-known as a tool that blind students can use to read text, surprisingly few people are aware that Louis Braille, a blind piano teacher, also invented music Braille to help blind students learn to read and play music. The general principles of literary Braille and music Braille are similar. Both systems use a “cell” containing six dots in varying combinations that blind people read by touching, but music Braille, which is the only internationally unified code, assigns different meanings to the dot combinations."

The Object Of My Affection An Autobiography, Tomlin, Pinky (with Lynette Wert)
18 Tomlin, Pinky (with Lynette Wert) The Object Of My Affection An Autobiography

This book is signed by Pinky and co-author Lynette Wert on the front endpaper (with an inscription). The dust jacket has some rubbing, edge wear, several beginning edge tears and light toning to the spine. There is some ground-in dirt and rubbing to the front panel. "ruman Virgil "Pinky" Tomlin (September 9, 1907 – December 12, 1987) was a singer, songwriter, and bandleader of the 1930s and 1940s. He also acted in occasional motion pictures. He wrote and published 22 songs, several of which were in the top ten on the "Hit Parade". In 1938, a song he had written, "In Ole Oklahoma", was named as Oklahoma’s state song by the Oklahoma State Junior Chamber of Commerce." "Tomlin came to national attention in the 1930s due to a song he had written while attending the University of Oklahoma, one he composed for a coed at the school, Joanne Alcorn, whom he would later marry. His original composition was subsequently adapted by Coy Poe and orchestrated and recorded in 1934 by bandleader Jimmie Grier. "The Object of My Affection" became a number-one hit late that year for Grier's Coconut Grove Orchestra, featuring Pinky Tomlin at vocals (Brunswick 7308). Grier, in fact, asked Tomlin himself to introduce the hit song to the public. It was widely recorded by other orchestras and vocalists, although Tomlin's own vocal rendition became the best known and remained the most popular. Ella Fitzgerald, who later became one of Tomlin's lifelong friends, chose to perform "The Object of My Affection" as one of two songs she performed at the age of 17, when she competed in an amateur contest at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem in November 1934." ; Signed by All Authors

19 Watson, Edward Braille Music-notation For The Blind As Arranged by the International Commission, and Confirmed by the Congress of Cologne, 1888...
London / New York Novello and Company 1902 1st Edition; 1st Printing Hardcover Very Good
B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is fraying to both front and rear spine joints (along the entire length of the of the joints). The book covers have some light rubbing, bumping and loss of paper at the spine ends and corners. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's bookplate (LeRoy H. Brant) on the front pastedown page. Laid-in are a pair of braille music plates. "The Braille is the universal system of Music-Notaion for the Blind. Hitherto, however, no text book on Braille music has appeared, the only available literature being a short key to the system (a small book of reference merely, as its title suggests) published by the British and Foreign Blind Association, London. Very few sighted musicians in this country have had the opportunity of acquiring a practical, professional knowledge of both the Braille and the Sighted notation systems." ""Though based on sound principles. Braille Music-notationcould not, in the nature of things, develop very rapidly; indeed, Louis Braille himself worked assiduously upon its rudiments for some years, until, in 1834, he considered it sufficiently satisfactory to be put to general use, and at his death in 1852, it was still in a comparatively elementary form. It is scarcely the function of a preface to outline the long history of the development of this notation system, but it is relevant to state that serious divergence of practice soon began to arise in the various countries where the method had been adopted. The causes were the want of text-book matter, the lack of co-ordination due to the isolating effect of distance, and the absence of facilities for rapid intercommunication such as we enjoy today. Perhaps this was not entirely without its advantages, since it undoubtedly stimulated original thinking and experimentation. The situation was saved, however, in 1888, when an International Congress held in Cologne effected an agreement between France, England, Germany and Denmark, by which the system was standardised in those countries. The spread of mere local practice was much to be deprecated, because of the risk of jeopardising, if not entirely wrecking, any possibility of the ultimate universal acceptance of one uniform system." Only four copies of this book are noted in Worldcat.

"The Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association, also known as WNGGA, was founded in 1929, after the first Cymanfa Ganu in North America was held on a field on Goat Island, located in the Niagara Reservation State Park in Niagara Falls, New York. The Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association is responsible for overseeing the Cymanfaoedd Ganu held in North America. The Gymanfa Ganu at Niagara Falls was the first National Gymanfa Ganu (Guh-mahn'-va Gahn'-ee) to be held in the United States. Although exact estimates are unknown, it is believed that 3,000 were in attendance. The Welsh Americans of Youngstown, Ohio are generally given the majority of credit for helping to perpetuate this movement. However, there were many others involved in the planning for the event. Delegations from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Michigan, traveling by train and auto to Niagara Falls, were joined there by equally enthusiastic Welsh from Ontario. After the success of the first Gymanfa Ganu, plans were already being made for another Gymanfa at Niagara Falls the following year. An organizational structure was put into place with Will Lewis (Youngstown, Ohio) as President; Ellis Hughes (Niagara Falls, New York) as Vice President; Dave Lewis (Youngstown, Ohio) as Secretary; and W. B. Jones (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) as Treasurer. This was the beginning of what has been known as the "Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association", renamed in 2011 to "Welsh North American Association" or WNAA."
