97 Greenwood, May S. The Mother Pioneers and Other Poems
Petaluma, CA Northern Crown Print / May Greenwood 1915 1st Edition; 1st Printing Paperback Near Fine Signed by Author
SIGNED EDITION. This is a small format booklet - hand-bound with two brown ribbons through punchholes. The booklet includes a tipped-in photograph of the author, below which she has signed her name. The booklet is in Near Fine condition and was issued without a dust jacket. It is possible there was a cardstock covering of some sort -- if so, the covers have been lost to time. Currently, the booklet is compiled of a blank front cover, eight inner pages and the rear cover (or page) which has been printed. There are no copies of this little book of poetry in Worldcat, nor in the Bancroft Library. The author apparently lived in or around Petaluma, CA at the turn of the 20th century -- she is best known for her slim volume of poetry about Jack London. This is possibly an unrecorded title. ; Signed by Author

B&W Photographs; This is a small format pamphlet with heavy decorated cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The pamphlet is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The covers of the pamphlet have some light bumping and wear. A small sticker was removed from the front cover, leaving a small irregular patch. The text pages are clean and bright. The pamphlet is illustrated throughout with black and white mounted photographs. "Cupressus macrocarpa, (now classed as Hesperocyparis macrocarpa) , commonly known as Monterey cypress, is a species of cypress native to the Central Coast of California. The native range of the species was confined to two small relict populations, at Cypress Point in Pebble Beach and at Point Lobos near Carmel, California...It has been widely reported that individual C. Macrocarpa trees may be up to 2,000 years old, but this is disputed by botanists, and the longest-lived report based on physical evidence is of a tree 284 years old. The renowned Californian botanist Willis Linn Jepson wrote that "the advertisement of [C. Macrocarpa trees] in seaside literature as 1,000 to 2,000 years old does not ... Rest upon any actual data, and probably represents a desire to minister to a popular craving for superlatives." "
