Collodi, C. (adapted by Allen Chaffee) PINOCCHIO New York Random House 1946 Trade Edition Hardcover Very Good Illustrated by Lois Lenski Color Illustrations; Children's Book. This is an early trade edition, but not a First edition. Front cover of boards is an off-white color, not the yellow that is necessary for First Edition. Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping, rubbing & edge wear. Spine ends and corners of book cover have some rubbing bumping and light edge wear that has started to show the boards beneath. White cover of book has started to yellow / darken with age and has fingerdirt. There is a very faint shadow from grease pencil markings to front cover by title. Text pages clean & bright. Previous owner's name inked on front endpaper. Endpapers are fully illustrated. Text pages include seven fully colored plates along with color illustrations dispersed throughout the text. There are also alternating pages with black & white illustrations. The colors are vibrant and the illustrations are wonderfully detailed. Pinocchio, however, always seems to have a sour expression on his face and isn't the cute little puppet that Disney makes him. --Once upon a time a poor wood carver named Geppetto lived in a country across the sea. He was little and old and he was lonely. One day a friend gave him a fine log of wood. It looked like just such a log as you might burn in the fire-place.
