Spine ends & corners of book cover have extremely light bumping & rubbing. Red cloth covered boards have gilt lettering to the spine of the book. There is a light slant to the spine of the book. Text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are illustrated with maps. Previous owner's inked gift notation is written neatly on the half title page & dated 1972. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. Dust jacket has been price clipped. There is some light edge wear, nicking and a couple of beginning edge tears to the top spine end of the dust jacket. The bottom dust jacket has some nicking and beginning edge tears and one very small chip missing. Overall, a very good+ copy. "The year 1778 was to be recorded as a turning point in the American War of Independence. What was first thought to be a colonial rebellion had changed to an all-out struggle for freedom from British rule, and with the evacuation of Philadelphia and the mounting involvement of French forces, the British Navy's resources were stretched to the point beyond which there were no safety margins."
