Lebedev, Lev and ALexander Romanov RENDEZVOUS IN SPACE: SOYUZ APOLLO An Account of the First Soviet - American Space Experiment 1975 Moscow, Ussr Progress Publishers 1979 1st English Edition; 1st Printing Hardcover Very Good in Very Good+ dust jacket Color Photographs; Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of extremely light bumping and rubbing. Blue cloth covered boards have silver gilt, blue and red lettering to the spine and front cover of the book. Text pages are clean & bright, however a former owner used a yellow highlighter pen in several places -- not extensively ( parts of about 20 pages total, but it is there & it is quite visible). Endpapers are fully illustrated. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. Tannish / white dust jacket has some light, overall toning. There is some beginning edge wear / nicking to the spine ends and corners of the dust jacket. Overall, a very good + copy with some unfortunate highlighting. "Before you begin this book we want to introduce you to: the men who, representing the peoples of the Soviet Union and the United States, shook hands in orbit and pioneered joint work on board international link-ups in space, Soviet cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valery Kubasov, American astronauts Thomas Stafford, Vance Brand and Donald Slayton." This trip was the final of the Apollo missions -- the program was scrapped after this launch and there were no more flights into outerspace from the US until the Shuttle program launched in the 1980's. The mission was mainly a political maneuvre between the US / Soviet Union and a chance for detente between the two superpowers. The idea was that the two launched crafts would link up and there would joint scientific experiments, etc. The meeting was considered a rousing success for both the Soviets and Americans however, no further joint outer space ventures were proposed after this flight.
