Color Illustrations; Children's Book. Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping, rubbing & edge wear. Blue cloth covered boards have white lettering to spine of book and a decorated egg of pink blue and purple on the front cover of the book. The spine ends and corners have light wear and beginning fraying but are otherwise in very nice clean condition. Text pages are clean & bright. Front spine hinge from the bottom up nearly two thirds of the hinge has cracked, with some of the paper starting to curl up right at the hinge. Endpapers are a solid cream color. There is only a portion of the dust jacket left -- The front cover of the dust jacket and front flap have survived -- the rest is completely missing. What there is of the dust jacket is in generally very good condition but has begun to tone around the edges & has some ground-in dirt. Actually, the book is in overall, very good shape (the dreaded better than it sounds), but has some definite flaws. "What's inside the pinkish, purplish, bluish egg? It's not a bird and it's not a turtle. It's another irresistible Bill Peet character -- a fabulous griffin named Ezekiel. The pompous old owl insists that he is not real and therefore doesn't exist at all, and the other birds find him to ferocious-looking a neighbor to tolerate. But in spite of his eagle beak and lion body, Zeke has a heart of gold and is as meek as the turtledove who hatched him."
