Duotone; Young Adult novel. This is the authorized, abridged edition of the Tarzan and the City of Gold which was issued by Whitman Publishing Co. Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Illustrated coated paper covered boards have red and purple rimmed yellow lettering (and some black lettering to bottom) front cover of book and white lettering to spine of book. Spine ends have some bumping, rubbing and beginning nicking. Bottom edges of book cover have some light rubbing and beginning color loss. Text pages clean, though noticeably darkened and fragile due to acid content of paper. Endpapers are fully illustrated. Front inner hinge has some cracking (though spine joint itself is strong). Overall, a very good+ copy. "Down out of Tigre and Amhara upon Gojam and Shoa and Kaffa come the rains from June to September, carrying silt and prosperity from Abyssinia to the eastern Sudan and to Egypt, bringing muddy trails and swollen rivers and death and prosperity to Abyssinia. Of these gifts of the rains, only the muddy trails and the swollen rivers and death interested a little band of shiftas that held out in the remote fastnesses of the mountains of Kaffa."

B&W Illustrations; Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of extremely light bumping . Red cloth covered boards have black lettering to the spine and front cover of the book.. There is some darkening / discoloration to the spine joint which appears to be a reaction to the glue used on in the binding process. The text pages are clean and bright. The edges of the dust jacket have some darkening / toning due to smoke . Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. There is one very small edge chip missing from bottom front edge of dust jacket right by front flap hinge and color on dust jacket has darkened in some places, while spine of dust jacket has a bit of light sunning. Dust jacket has been price clipped. Overall, a clean, bright copy - "As he dropped the last grisly fragment of the dismembered and mutilated body into the small vat of nitric acid that was to devour every trace of the horrid evidence which might easily send him to the gallows, the man sank weakly into a chair and throwing his body forward upon his great, teak desk buried his face in his arms, breaking into dry moaning sobs."
