Duotone; Young Adult novel. This is the authorized, abridged edition of the Tarzan and the City of Gold issued by Whitman Publishing Co. The book is in Very Good+ condition and is missing the accompanying dust jacket. The book and its contents are generally in clean, bright condition. The corners, spine ends and edges of the book cover have some light rubbing, edge wear and nicking. The text pages are clean, though the edges do have toning / darkening due to the acid content of the book. The front inner hinge has started to crack, but the spine itself is not affected. Overall, a very good+ copy. "Down out of Tigre and Amhara upon Gojam and Shoa and Kaffa come the rains from June to September, carrying silt and prosperity from Abyssinia to the eastern Sudan and to Egypt, bringing muddy trails and swollen rivers and death and prosperity to Abyssinia. Of these gifts of the rains, only the muddy trails and the swollen rivers and death interested a little band of shiftas that held out in the remote fastnesses of the mountains of Kaffa."

Grosset & Dunlap reprint c1938. Dust jacket art by J. Allen St. John. This book is in Very Good+ to Near Fine- condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The front endpaper includes both an inked previous owner notation (Xmas 1939) and a pencilled owner's signature. The text pages are clean and bright. The top edge of the text block has some ground in dirt. The dust jacket has several edge tears, nicks and chips, but is complete and the colors on the dust jacket are still vibrant. "Called from his home in the African jungle to great adventure, Tarzan of the Apes summons his Waziri spearmen and joins the Jason Gridley expedition to seek the arctic opening in the earth's surface that leads to the inner world of Pellucidar. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Very Good+ to Near Fine - dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright, though there is some light toning to the edges of the text block and text pages. The price clipped dust jacket is in very good condition. There are very small chips missing from the bottom corners of the dust jacket. This book and dust jacket appear to have been in the warehouse that was burned in the mid 1960's. There is some very slight residue of smoke to the dust jacket edges. "As he dropped the last grisly fragment of the dismembered and mutilated body into the small vat of nitric acid that was to devour every trace of the horrid evidence which might easily send him to the gallows, the man sank weakly into a chair and throwing his body forward upon his great, teak desk buried his face in his arms, breaking into dry moaning sobs."
