Forester, C. S. (Cecil Louis Troughton Smith) THE SKY AND THE FOREST London, England Michael Joseph Ltd. 1948 1st Edition; 1st Printing Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good dust jacket Red cloth covered boards have silver gilt lettering to the spine of the book. There is some light bumping to the spine ends of the book cover and one small, wrinkled bump to the bottom front cover of the book. The silver lettering on the spine of the book has started to rub away. The text pages are clean and bright, thought starting to yellow / darken due to the acid content of the paper. The endpapers are a solid off-white color, again, there is toning / foxing to both front and rear endpapers. The front endpaper has a previous owner's name inked in blue ink. The dust jacket has several small edge nicks and tears and small chips missing (mostly from the bottom spine end and spine joints). The rear dust jacket cover has ground-in dirt. "There had been much rain during the night, and the morning air was still saturated with moisture, heavy and oppresive, and yet with a suspicion of chill about it, enough to make flies sluggish and men and women slow in their movements. But now the sun was able to look over the tops of the trees into the town, calling out the wreaths of steam from the puddles, and shining down upon Loa's woolly head as he walked out into the west end of the street."
