Color Illustrations; The Book Club of California Volume # 160. Limited to 500 unnumbered copies (printed at Cambridge University Press with colour plates printed at the Curwen Press, London). Typographical design by John Dreyfus. Spine ends of book have a bit of very light rubbing. The red cloth spine has marbled paper covered boards and plain endpapers. Previous owner's ink stamped name on rear pastedown (very small). The text pages are clean and bright. Includes the plain, unprinted dust jacket as issued. The dust jacket has several edge tears, small chips and nicks. Previous owner (helpfully, depending on your point of view) stencilled title on spine of dust jacket so it could be seen from the spine. "Aquatint like printing formed part of the tendency towards decay by mass-production, a beautiful by-product. Its discovery, coinciding with the fine period of water-colours, happened to provide the ideal way of reproducing them. Colour illustration is itself in a sad history of decline. As the commonest phrase in English weather is We've had the best of the day, so the most usual of an English craft is nobody would be able to do it these days."
