B&W Illustrations; Spine ends & corners of book cover have extremely light bumping & rubbing. Tan cloth covered boards have black lettering to the spine of the book. Text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are a solid off-white color. The front endpaper has a couple of small stray spots of beginning foxing or discoloration. The top edge of the text block has some beginning ground-in dirt. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of very light bumping & rubbing. There is one tiny edge nick / tear to the top front edge of the dust jacket along with some light rubbing and edge wear to both top and bottom edges of the dust jacket. The tan paper of the dust jacket is a bit absorbent and has taken on a couple of stray dirt marks (light & faint). There is some beginning toning to the edges of the dust jacket flaps. Overall, a very nice clean, bright copy. Illustrated throughout with both black and white and full color illustrations by a host of artists including: Ian Miller, Michael Foreman, Allan Curless, Lidia Postma, John Blanche, Pauline Martin, Sue Porter, Linda Garland, Jaroslav Bradac, Victor Ambrus, and, John Davis. Chapters include: A Map of Middle-Earth and The Undying Lands, A Chronology of Middle-Earth and the Undying Lands, A Chronology of the Kingdoms on Middle-Earth in the Ages of Sun, A Bestiary of the Beasts, Monsters, Races, Deities and Flora, Genealogies of the Races and Kingdoms of Elves and Men, and, Index of Principal Sources. "A Tolkien Bestiary is more than a useful reference book for the reader of Tolkien's own books.
