National Geographic Society OUR FOREIGN-BORN CITIZENS / LITTLE CITIZENS OF THE WORLD Washington D. C. National Geographic Society 1917 1st Edition; 1st Printing Magazine Very Good B&W Photographs; This is a set of a DISBOUND article from National Geographic Magazine along with a photographic essay. The article is 18 double-sided pages long and includes 35 black & white photographs along with a black & white map and several graphs. Also included are eight double-sided photogravure illustrations of young people from around the world called: Little Citizens of the World. Text pages are clean, bright and without chips, tears, discoloration or wear. They do, however, have the necessary staple holes where staples were removed. The article uses the most recent (for the time) statistics to compile an overview of immigrants coming into the United States (mostly through Ellis Island--there is virtually no mention of the immigrants coming in through the Western entry points. Photographs show immigrants in national costumes and with family members (not uncommon for some families at the time to have 10-13 members. There is a bit in the article about immigration laws and recent changes. It appears that the authors are using the 1910 census information for some of their statistics. The photogravures include to pictures of native americans--the first from the Blackfeet Indian reservation, the second from an Ojibway tribe. Price:
