First Hardback edition - originally published in magazine format. This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good to Near Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. There is one small rubbed spot to the top front spine joint of the book cover. The text pages are clean and bright. The top edge of the text block has toning and foxing. The dust jacket has several small to smallish chips missing (mostly to the spine ends), along with several small edge tears, nicks and rubbed spots. The rear dust jacket cover has some rubbing and yellowing / fading. This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. This is a first edition - one of the several published by Harper & Bro. in the 1940's / 1950's where the first edition statement is lacking. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. There is a very slight dusty, old smell to the book. The text pages are clean and bright. The top edge of the text block has noticeable foxing / spotting and some ground-in dirt. The dust jacket has several small edge tears, some light rubbing to the bottom front spine joint and a couple of light scratches to the top front edge of the dust jacket by the title. "Bruce Lockheart was a tough Texas hombre. In his young life he had been a cowpuncher, trail driver, buffalo hunter, Indian fighter, and, when forced to fight, a gunman. But he was no gambler and he was loyal."

New York Grosset & Dunlap 1938 Reprint Hardcover Very Good in Good+ dust jacket
Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Red paper covered boards with black lettering to spine of book. Top and bottom spine ends have some light bumping, rubbing and beginning nicking with some beginning rubbing to corners also. Text pages clean & bright. Spine ends of dust jacket have some bumping, rubbing & chipping with some associated nicks and small edge tears. Both spine ends of dust jacket have tears and smallish chips missing. There is a wrinkled tear to front spine joint (all the paper is there, but it's been rumpled. There is one small chip to rear spine joint of dust jacket and bottom front edge of dust jacket has a small triangular chip missing. Overall, a very good copy. --Kenneth Ward, a young eastern lad just out of prepatory school, goes West on his summer vacation to join a friend, Dick Leslie, a government forest ranger in Arizona. Ken, honest, loyal but hotheaded runs into plenty of excitement and trouble when he finds that a big lumber steal is going on--.
