Cover Art; Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Edges of book cover (both top and bottom, front and rear) have some darkening / ground-in dirt. Blue paper covered boards have a dark blue cloth spine with red lettering. Top corners of book cover have light bumping. Text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are solid red overlaid with the Harper novel of Suspense logo. Top and foredges of text block have some ground-in dirt and a couple of small spots of discoloration. Inscription on the half title page in pencil (most likely a previous owner's notation, but the signature is rather muddled & looks somewhat like the name James). Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. Top and bottom edges of dust jacket (both front and rear) have some beginning darkening / toning. Top front edge of dust jacket has a small semi-closed edge tear. Top rear edge of dust jacket has some beginning wrinkling and nicking along with one small edge tear / nick to top rear flap joint. Reverse of dust jacket has a small patch of water spotting to bottom spine. Reverse of top and bottom of rear dust jacket have patches of discoloration." Overall, a good solid starter copy. This is the author's first book. Winner of the British Crime Writer's Gold Dagger for Best of the Year. "The startling beauty of the remains did not distress the undertaker, Mr. Abbott. Cover Art; Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of very light bumping and rubbing. Yellowish tan paper covered boards have a black cloth spine with gilt lettering. There are two light bumps to the top edge of the book cover (one to the front cover, the other to the rear cover). Text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are illustrated with the Harper Suspense logo in black and white. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. There is a bit of generalized rubbing to the edges of dust jacket along with a couple of small edge nicks and tears. The top front edge of the dust jacket has an inch long semi-closed tear . The bottom rear spine joint has a small edge tear & there is another semi-closed edge tear right next to it on the bottom edge of the rear cover. There's also a bit of rubbing and one small wrinkle to the bottom front edge of the dust jacket. Overall, a very nice clean, bright copy. "Lt.
