Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of extremely light bumping and rubbing. Gray paper covered boards have gilt lettering to the spine and front cover of the book. The text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are a solid white color. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. There are a couple of very small (but, unfortunately) noticeable edge nick / tears to the edges of the dust jacket (two to the top front, not to the bottom front spine joint. two to the top rear edge). The white portion of the rear dust jacket cover has some beginning ground-in dirt and a couple of very small spots (towards the top edge of the dust jacket). The spine ends of the dust jacket have some beginning nicking and some light, but noticeable rubbing. There is a penned note (looks like a reminder list) on the reverse of the dust jacket. Overall, a very good+, clean, bright copy. Included are three essays / biographical bits, including: At War, At Home, and, At Ease, also included are two appendices: Some notes on Drugs, and Statement of John Steinbeck IV before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee to InvestigateJuvenile Delinquency.

A Very Good+ copy of the book with a Very Good dust jacket. This copy is a First Edition, first state with all the correct points: There is a facsimile of the author's signature but no blurbs beneath photo on the rear dust jacket, The author's photo is by Phillipe Halsman and there the publisher's topstain is red. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked gift notation on the front endpaper in pen. The dust jacket has several small edge tears and a couple of beginning nicks/ The rear cover of the dust jacket has some beginning toning / darkening to the white portions, and the dust jacket has been price clipped. The reverse of the dust jacket shows noticeable foxing to the joints and edges. "

B&W Photographs; This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good dust jacket. . The book covers have a bit of light toning. The text pages are clean and bright. The endpapers show noticeable browning and discoloration due to acid content of paper (especially at spine hinges where the glue is). There is a previous owner's name and address inked on the front pastedown. The spine ends and corners of the dust jacket have a bit of light bumping, rubbing and chipping. The dust jacket has several edge tears, nicks and scratches along with some biopredation (bug nibbles) to the front joints. The rear dust jacket has noticeable darkening / dirt and some biopredation. "Among the tall mountains of Mexico the ancient life goes on, sometimes little changing in a thousand years. But now from the cities of the valley, from the schools and laboratories, new thinking and new techniques reach out to the remote villages. The old and the new meet and sometimes clash, but from the meetings a gradual change is taking place in the Villages," The text is by John Steinbeck and describes a documentary he scripted. The documentary looks at a small mountain village in Mexico as it turns very slowly and fearfully away from tradition towards the idea of medicine and ways to change the situation of the villagers for the better. The photographs are stills from the movie.
