McNeer, May THE AMERICAN INDIAN STORY New York Ariel Books 1963 Trade Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket Illustrated by Lynd Ward B&W Illustrations; Children's Book. The spine ends amd corners of the book cover have a bit of very light bumping and rubbing. Orange - red cloth covered boards have a white cloth spine with bronze lettering to spine and front cover of book. There is a light slant to spine of book. The text pages are clean and bright. Endpapers are fully illustrated. Illustrations throughout book alternate between color and black and white. The spine ends and corners of the dust jacket have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. The dust jacket has several small edge tears and nicks along with a couple of very small pokes. The top front edge of dust jacket, by the top spine joint, has a grease pencil number which has been lightly erased but which is still very visible. Overall, a very good+ copy. Spine ends & corners of book covers have some light bumping, some rubbing & edge wear. Text pages clean & bright. Previous owner's gift inscription (dated 1944) on front pastedown in neat ink. Dust jacket has several small edge chips, nicks & tears along with noticeable rubbing to spine ends, corners & edges. This is NOT the later 1960's Landmark edition, but an edition published in 1944 with more information & nice illustrations by Lynd Ward. --When a small flake of yellowish metal found in the mill race at Sutter's Fort proved to be gold, the news flashed around the world. McNeer, May THE STORY OF THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS New York Harper & Brothers 1945 Early printing Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket Illustrated by Cornelius De Witt Color Illustrations; Children's Book. This edition was published in August of 1945. Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping, rubbing & edge wear. Illustrated, paper covered boards have a tan cloth spine with black and red lettering to front cover of book. All corners, and bottom edges have some light but noticeable rubbing and beginning edge wear. Spine of book has some light rubbing & bumping to ends and there is one small beginning fray to front spine joint. Text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are fully illustrated. Inner joints are a bit loose. Previous owner's inked name on top edge of front endpaper. Overall, a very good copy. "Inland from the eastern shores of Virginia and the Carolines, the rounded peaks of the Southern Appalachian Mountains are outlined against the sky.
