1 Stephenson, Neal CRYPTONOMICON
New york Avon Books 1999 0380973464 / 9780380973460 1st Trade Edition; 1st Edition Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket Illustrated by Amy Halperin & Liz Kenyon
Cover Art; First Trade edition. Spine ends & corners of book cover have a bit of very light bumping & rubbing. Black paper covered boards have black paper covered spine and gilt lettering. Spine of book is nice and straight, without bowing (a common fault with a book this size and weight). Text pages clean & bright. Top edge of book has one thin line of waviness -- when you open the book at the spot you can see where the cutting machine was not quite sharp enough & nicked a few pages. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of very light bumping & rubbing to top spine end. Front flap joint has a small spot of rubbing by top edge. Overall, a very good+ copy. -- In 1942, Lawrence Pritchard Waterhouse - mathematical genius and young Captain in the U. S. Navy - is assigned to Detachment 2702. It is an outfit so secret that only a handful of people know it exists, and some of those people have names like Churchill and Roosevelt. The mission of Waterhouse and Detachment 2702 - commanded by Marine Raider Bobby Shaftoe - is to keep the Nazis ignorant of the fact that the Allied Intelligence has cracked the enemy's fabled Enigma Code--. This book was a Hugo Nominee (Lost out to Vernor Vinge that year ) and is Book One of a massive three volume alternate reality series.

The world is a most confused and unsteady place - especially London, center of finance, innovation, and conspiracy - in the year 1714, when Daniel Waterhouse makes his less-than=triumphant return to England's shores. Aging Puritan and Natural Philosopher, confidant of the high and mighty and contemporary of the most brilliant minds of his age, he has braved the merciless sea and an assault by the infamous pirate Blackbeard to help mend the rift between two adversarial geniuses at the princess's behest. But while much has changed outwardly, the duplicity and danger that once drove Daniel to the American Colonies is still coin of the British realm." ; Vol. 3
