1 Thomas, Ross THE BACKUP MEN
New York William Morrow & Company 1971 0688010911 / 9780688010911 1st Edition; 1st Printing Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket
The spine ends and corners of the book cover have a bit of very light bumping and rubbing. Black paper covered boards have a black cloth spine with white lettering. The text pages are clean and bright. (two slightly different shades of white paper was used throughout the text block, giving some pages a more yellowed appearance than others. The edges of the text block have started to tone a bit. Then endpapers are a solid brick red color. There is a smallish spot of discoloration to the front endpaper (though from what I'm not sure). The spine ends and corners of the dust jacket have a bit of very light bumping and rubbing. The dust jacket has three or four very beginning edge tears . There is one one inch long semi-closed tear to the top rear spine joint of the dust jacket. The rear cover of the dust jacket has some light, but noticeable toning, especially toward the top edge. The dust jacket flaps have noticeable (even darker than the rear cover) toning. The book has a very slightly musty / dusty smell to it -- however there is NO mold. Overall, a very good+ copy of an early title. "And now the Washington saloon-keepers, Mac McCorkle and Mike Padillo, are back again, drawn into intrigue and murder in Washington and San Francisco. Their new problem is to protect from assassination a young man named Peter Paul Kassim, soon to become King of Llaquah, a country with recently discovered oil reserves of 90 billion barrels."

This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. There is a slight slant to the spine. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket has some light edge wear and several small edge tears and nicks along with some beginning ground-in dirt. "Since the end of World War II, powerful espionage establishments, often consisting of several interlocking yet competitive secret agencies, have grown up in every major country of the world. Americans are familiar with the Central Intelligence Agency, and to a lesser degree ith the other intelligence organizations that comprise the espionage establishment of the United States.
