Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. There are two rectangular sticker shadows on the front cover of the book by the foredge. The text pages are clean & bright. Overall, a nice bright copy. "John Muir, Scotland's gift to America, was as modest as he was great. Once, in answer to a request for biographical material, he replied succinctly that he had been born in Scotland, immigrated to Wisconsin at age eleven, and after moving to California, become a mountaineer whose life was singularly uneventful!" This is a large format paperback book with cardstock covers. The book is clean and bright with the exception of some ground-in dirt to the covers of the book along with some minor toning in spots. The text pages are clean and bright. Signed with an inscription by the author on the front free page : "Best Wishes to / Beth and Hart Cook / Shirley Sargent. / 7 / 77". Ellen " Beth " Cook was the head cook for the Ahwahnee hotel very near it's beginning. She remained there for a number of years, even co-writing a book of her own about the experience called: "My Mother the Chef: A Family History of Early Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks". She is mentioned (with a photo) on page 30. As for this book about the Ahwahnee Hotel: "It seemed important and appropriate to the author, a historian and longtime resident of Yosemite, that a comprehensive human history of the singularly beautiful Ahwahnee Hotel be researched, written and published in honor and observance of the hotel's fiftieth anniversary year - 1977."
