Tan cloth covered boards have black and red lettering to the spine of the book. The lettering on the spine has rubbed noticeably and in the case of several words, is completely rubbed off. The text pages are generally clean, though there are a few fingermarked pages and one page early in the text has some moisture rippling. The dust jacket is generally complete, though torn and wrinkled and well-used. There is a hand (small hand) sized chunk of the bottom rear dust jacket edge chipped off. Overall, a good solid reading copy, but in not the prettiest condition. "Few incidents in the history of Western America have aroused more controversy than the Mountain meadows Massacre. In September, 1857, a large and prosperous group of emigrants, the Fancher Party, was passing through the territory of Utah on its way to California. At Mountain Meadows, where they had stopped to rest and to water and feed their stock, they were ambushed and tricked into surrendering. More than 120 men, women, and children were then cold-bloodedly murdered by Indians and members of the Mormon Church, some of whom were disguised as Indians."
