There is noticeable fading to the spine of the book. The text pages are clean and bright, although they are darkened due to the acid content of the paper. "Once upon a time there was a button, quite an ordinary button in appearance - but, then, one should never judge by appearances. This button had had exceptional advantages, for he had once been sewn on a professor's waistcoat; besides that, he had a sense of humour. The button lived in retirement in a little brass bowl on the dining-room mantlepiece."
