"William Edward Biederwolf (September 29, 1867 – September 3, 1939) was an American Presbyterian evangelist...In his early years, at least, Biederwolf was not above using parades, athletic feats, and magic tricks to win over audiences. Also like his colleagues, Biederwolf gave sermons on "booze," motherhood, and purity (though, as was typical of the period, the latter was given to men only). Later Biederwolf winced at evangelists who had promotional photographs taken of themselves in ridiculous poses, admitting that although he himself had "been foolishly guilty with his brethren," he had "put away the things of a fool." While Biederwolf stressed the significance of the Holy Spirit in producing conversions, he also did not shy away from noting the importance of the evangelist’s "personal magnetism." "

With her highly disciplined mind and her love for art and antiquity. Anna was on her way to becoming a well respected Classics scholar at the age of only thirty. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on Maphaeus Vegius and his Thirteenth Book of the Aeneid. Vegius (1406-58) was an Italian Renaissance humanist, poet, and educator who revered Virgil and wrote a “final chapter” to the Aeneid recounting the conclusion of the hero’s life. Anna’s study of Maphaeus was published by Stanford University Press in 1930 on the 2000th anniversary of Virgil’s death and was reprinted in 2002.1 A recent reviewer noted: “As a piece of serious scholarship, [Anna Brinton’s] edition has been overtaken, but this is a classic work that still holds an important place in scholarship on the subject. ”" "Jakob Böhme (1575 – 17 November 1624) was a German Christian mystic and theologian. He was considered an original thinker by many of his contemporaries within the Lutheran tradition, and his first book, commonly known as Aurora, caused a great scandal. In contemporary English, his name may be spelled Jacob Boehme; in seventeenth-century England it was also spelled Behmen, approximating the contemporary English pronunciation of the German Böhme."

He was born in 1858, in Sweden, but at the age of sixteen he moved to Norway and made a living by fishing. In later years he became surveyor of land. Already since 1884 he had begun to see visions and to hear voices, which bade him to pray on behalf of men who were to be shortly carried off by death. His predictions always came true. At night he often woke up, hearing the command to pray on behalf of fishermen who were at sea, of seamen whose ship was endangered by a tornado in the Carribean Sea, of people who were imperiled during the earthquakes of Messina and San Francisco. He later related how he had to pray also on behalf of the Titanic's passengers on the night of the shipwreck."
