This book is "an attempt to outline, briefly and simply, the facts of what the Far East means to every American citizen. American foreign policy, of which the Far East constitutes a large slice, involves the masses of the people. Yet often it is built by the needs and aspirations of a minority. The American people want peace. The Government talks peace. But our foreign policy may well lead to war." Boake Carter first came to fame as one of the radio announcers broadcasting updates about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping case, once the eyes of the world were on him, he turned to broadcast journalistic political punditry, even to the point of beating out the likes of Lowell Thomas and Edgar R. Murrow for a time. He garnered his own radio show during the 1930's and turned into the 1930's version of Rush Limbaugh, spouting his personal thoughts on all sorts of subjects, but especially foreign policy, isolationism, and the New Deal.

"Juan Manuel de Rosas (30 March 1793 – 14 March 1877) , nicknamed "Restorer of the Laws", was a politician and army officer who ruled Buenos Aires Province and briefly the Argentine Confederation. Although born into a wealthy family, Rosas independently amassed a personal fortune, acquiring large tracts of land in the process. Rosas enlisted his workers in a private militia, as was common for rural proprietors, and took part in the disputes that led to numerous civil wars in his country. Victorious in warfare, personally influential, and with vast landholdings and a loyal private army, Rosas became a caudillo, as provincial warlords in the region were known. He eventually reached the rank of brigadier general, the highest in the Argentine army, and became the undisputed leader of the Federalist Party." "Juan Domingo Perón ( 8 October 1895 – 1 July 1974) was an Argentine lieutenant general and politician. After serving in several government positions, including Minister of Labour and Vice President, he was thrice elected President of Argentina, serving from June 1946 to September 1955, when he was overthrown in a coup d'état, and then from October 1973 until his death in July 1974."

"The history of American radicalism is to most Americans largely a forgotten and obscure history. It becomes a collection of vignettes - lonely men talking earnestly in small groups, passionate men pleading with curious and indifferent crowds, courageous men defeated by power or by apathy. When radicalism becomes respectable, when it acquires the apparatus which guarantees an ordered legacy for the historian, then it probably ceases to be truly radical." "Eugene Victor "Gene" Debs (November 5, 1855 – October 20, 1926) was an American union leader, one of the founding members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW or the Wobblies) , and five times the candidate of the Socialist Party of America for President of the United States. Through his presidential candidacies, as well as his work with labor movements, Debs eventually became one of the best-known socialists living in the United States."
