KEEPING UP WITH LIZZIE, Bacheller, Irving
1 Bacheller, Irving KEEPING UP WITH LIZZIE
New York Harper & Brothers Publishers 1911 1st Edition; 1st Printing Hardcover Near Fine with no dust jacket Illustrated by W. H. D. Koerner
B&W Illustrations; The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. Green cloth covered boards have gilt lettering to the spine and white lettering and decoration to the front cover of the book. There is a very slight slant to the spine of the book. The white lettering on the author's name on the front cover has started to rub a bit. The text pages are clean and bright. Included are twelve full-page black and white illustrated plates by W. H. D. Koerner. While not one of the best known of Bacheller's works, this is another of his rollicking, lighthearted looks at American society. "Dan Pettigrew was home from Harvard for the holidays, an' he an' Lizzie met at a church party. They held their heads very high, an' seemed to despise each other an' everybody else. Word went around that it was all off between 'em. It seems that they had riz - not risen, but riz - far above each other. Now it often happens that when the young ascend the tower o' their aspirations an' look down upon the earth its average inhabitant seems no larger to them than a red ant."
