This is Volume ONE of a two Volume Set. This book is in Good+ to Near Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. This book has a three quarter leather binding. The leather is worn and dry and the front spine joint has cracked. The text pages are clean and bright and the binding itself is in very solid,undamaged condition. Included are detailed biographies of numerous important figures of the area, along with full-page photographs of some of them. It appears that Volume one is mostly biography of prominent citizens of the county, while Volume two (the missing volume) covers more of the history of the county. Scarce in the original edition. "Vermilion County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Illinois, between the Indiana border and Champaign County. It was established in 1826 and was the 45th of Illinois' 102 counties. According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 81,625, which is a decrease of 2.7% from 83,919 in 2000. It contains 21 incorporated settlements; the county seat and largest city is Danville. The county is also divided into 19 townships which provide local services."

B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good- condition and was issued without a dust jacket. This copy belonged to a former county resident and includes several items tacked or stapled in relating to the county, and also has some notations from the owner throughout. The book and its contents are in generally clean condition. There is some light bumping, rubbing and beginning fraying to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. There is a slight bow to the front cover of the book as well. The text pages are mostly clean and bright (with the exceptions mentions above). "Carroll County is a county located in the U. S. State of Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the population was 15,387. Its county seat is Mount Carroll. Carroll County was formed in 1839 out of Jo Daviess County. The county is named for Charles Carroll who signed the Declaration of Independence. Carroll, who died in 1832, was the last signer to die. "
