THE GOOD SHEPHERD Boston, MA Little Brown & Company 1955 Book Club Edition Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good dust jacket; Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Red cloth covered boards have gilt lettering and decorations to spine of book. There is an extremely slight slant to the spine of the book. This is an early book club edition--the binding is very similar to a trade edition...t hough it does have a minute blind stamp to bottom rear edge of book cover. Text pages are clean & bright. Previous owner's inked name and date on bottom of front endpaper. Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping, rubbing & edge wear. Bottom spine end of dust jacket has a small rectangular chip missing along with a couple of other small nicks, edge tears and chips missing. Top spine end has a small triangular chip missing. Rear top edge of dust jacket has several small edge tears. Rear dust jacket has some light darkening / sunning. Front cover illustration of dust jacket is in very nice condition. The artwork for the dust jacket was done by R. A. Genders, DMIC, USNR, a U.S. Naval combat artist. Overall, a very good copy. --The mission of the commander was to lead the protecting screen of four escort vessels convoying thirty-seven Allied Merchantmen across the icy North Atlantic from America to England.
