Greene, Graham MAY WE BORROW YOUR HUSBAND? & OTHER COMEDIES OF THE SEXUAL LIFE New York Viking Press 1967 1st American Edition; 1st Printing Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good dust jacket; Spine ends & corners of book cover have extremely light bumping & rubbing. Olive green paper covered boards have a black cloth spine with gilt lettering. Authors initials are stamped on front cover in gilt as well. Both front and rear boards have several spots of light color loss / spotting / rubbing -- Front cover wear appears to be from some sort of lifting of paper which wear on rear cover looks to be some sort of light spotting. Text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are a solid olive green (to match the cover). Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. Absorbent dust jacket has taken on a bit of light ground-in dirt (more noticeably to rear cover than front cover). Spine ends of dust jacket have some light wear, rubbing and nicking. Top rear edge of dust jacket has one very small semi-closed edge tear. Overall, a very good+ copy. The book includes the short works: May We Borrow your Husband?, Beauty, Chagrin in Three Parts, The Over-Night Bag, Mortmain, Cheap in August, A Shocking Accident, The Invisible Japanese Gentlemen, Awful When You Think of It, Doctor Crombie, The Root of All Evil, and, Two Gentle People. "The subtitle of Graham Greene's new collection of short stories - the thir in his career - is not to be interpreted narrowly. Their versatility is remarkable. The characters are drawn from all ages, all sexes, and several nationalities. The tone may be grotesque or ironic or near-tragic or even farcical." ; S.
