There is some very light beginning fraying to top spine end of book cover and a bit of lightly ground-in finger dirt to covers. Blue cloth covered boards have black and red lettering to front cover and black lettering to spine of book. This is a photoplay edition, with fourteen black and white photographic plates taken from the movie featuring William Worthington, Herbert Rawlinson and Cleo Madison. Text pages are clean and bright with a few stray finger spots to several pages. Front endpaper has a beautifully calligraphed gift notation from the Yreka, California Knights of Pythias Lodge and on the front pastedown is a small black and white photograph encased in a mailing folder which has been pasted down. The photograph is of a cave somewhere in or around Yreka and the note with the mailer states that this is the place where the lodge will be conferring knighthood on new members of the lodge. The author of the play was John Banim and it was adapted for this book by Albert Payson Terhune. "Its (the story of Damon and Pythias) elaboration in the play of that name by John Banim found a welcome in the public heart, and later the friendship of these two was made the basis for a society, established in the City of Washington, February 19, 1864. This society has developed into one of the great Fraternities, with membership rapidly nearing eight hundred thousand splendid men, known as the Order of Knights of Pythias. That Sicilian scene is so human, so filled with lessons that mean for mutual, community and universal good, that the devotees of that great Order gladly encouraged every effort to disseminate the lessons to be found therein."
