Kids, Cops & Kilos A Study of Contemporary Suburban Youth

This book is a trade paperback. This book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping and edge wear to the covers of the book along with one light crease to the bottom front corner and some beginning foxing / toning. The text pages are clean of all marks, etc., however they are noticeably toned due to the acid content of the paper. "Kids, Cops & Kilos is a first-hand investigation of upper-middle class suburbia and the impact of new social changes on suburban youth, values and institutions, with insight into the intricate workings of a representative suburban community and its youth systems." Authored by Dr. G. Thomas Gitchoff--currently professor emeritus and creator of the criminal justice program at San Diego State University -- wrote this study using the town of Pleasant Hill, CA as his targeted area. Pleasant Hill, a suburb of San Francisco, along with the entire San Francisco Bay Area, became hotspot of the psychedelic scene, which included drug experimentation, political activism and general disrespect for authority and disregard for set values. The book gives a typical perspective of the law centered for those who had begun to rebel against the status quo, using some scientific methods and research to promote the viewpoint that the psychedelic culture is a delinquent one. There are one-on-one interviews with several of these disaffected youth, an overview of the reasons why these youth have become disaffected and several theories on what needs to change vis a vis police - youth relations. At the very end is a small glossary of psychedelic terminology. The rear cover of the book includes a wonderful cartoon illustration of a group of hippies / psychedelics being confronted by the "Local Fuzz" by an illustrator named D. Kelly. Scarce.
