B&W Photographs; This book is in Very Good+ to Near Fine- condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There is some beginning edge wear and bumping to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are clean and bright. There is some toning to the edges of the text block. The endpapers have some light toning and spotting / foxing to the endpapers. The front endpaper has a previous owner's penciled gift notation. "However, having spent nearly four months in this, the most historic and sacred land on earth, traveling from Dan to Beersheba - from one end of the land to the other - and over much of it from two to four times, we trust the book will prove both interesting and profitable." The book details, sometimes in brief, sometimes in much more voluable language, the travels of J. A. Paine from Meridian, California to the Holy Land. Included are black and white photos - the list of illustrations shows 30 photos... 5 photos are missing. The interesting addition to this rather staid travelogue doesn't show up until the last page of the text -- where it's noted that Paine's travel companion was none other than Brother William Baxter Godbey -- and this trip, in 1905 was one of five trips Bro. Godbey conducted. " Godbey set out on his first trip around the world in 1895 (with subsequent trips in 1899, 1905, 1912 and 1918), after receiving a gift of $500 from J. S. Hunton subsequent to a lecture at the Texas Holiness Associations campgrounds in Waco, Texas. Godbey wanted to travel in Bible lands and improve his understanding of the geography, manners and customs of the land and the people. "
